Mallorca & Ibiza Rocks!!!

Picture this… sunbathing for the day in the sweltering heat on a soft white sandy beach, looking out onto the turquise blue sea that mirrors the bright blue sky. Out on the horizon is a fiery haze that the days heat brings. The only reason to get up is to have a dip in the water to cool off or grap a cocktail at the nearest beach bar. Sounds good right? As I look out my window at cloudy, dull, cold Ireland I am counting down the days until I can get onto a plane with my suitcase full of sundresses, bikinis, flip flops and sun creams, and head off to somewhere I can leave everything behind me and just relax and have a good time.

Everyone looks for sun, sea and cocktails to blow off steam after a hard, stressful year in college, somewhere that your only worry is what restaurant to eat in that night. This is such a great feeling after months of “How am I going to get this assignment in on time?”

Summer time also means festivals; Oxegen, Electric Picnic, Glastonbury, T in the Park, Isle of Wight and many, many more. Well, if you like festivals and you love holidays, then you will love this! 2011 will see Mallorca and Ibiza hold a number of gigs every week, starting in May and ending in September, at their famous “Rocks” hotels chain.

Summer 2011 will see Mallorca’s base play host to not one, not two, not even ten but a whole seventeen weeks full of off the hook gigs. Last year saw the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Friendly Fires, Tinie Tempah, Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Zane Lowe, Example and yes they are returning this year. Plus there are plenty of hot new acts making their debut including The Vaccines, Brother, Labrinth, Katy B and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Then there are some absolute titans of electronic music such as Fatboy Slim and Magnetic Man. Kicking the summer gigs off will be Plan B and Doorly along with one of the hottest Grime MCs on the block Wretch 32.

Ibiza Rocks seess much of the same line-up. The hardest decision to be made is Ibiza or Mallorca? San Antonio or Magaluf? Decisions decisions.

I am planning on heading over to Mallorca to work for the summer and have been told by numerous people that Magaluf is easy enough to get a job in. I will definetly have to pay a visit to Mallorca Rocks, maybe even try and get a job in the famous “Rocks” hotel!
